Bio
I'll expand this bio as I get the chance.
I am a geek for all seasons. SciFi books, TV, and Movies, History, Literature, Antiques, Architecture, Star Trek, Babylon 5, H. P. Lovecraft, constant reader of King, Cinema, some Anime, Comics/Graphic Novels, Books, Politics, layman's science, paleontology, fortean studies, etc., etc., etc.
I have a green jade d20 set as the stone in my wedding ring. I was married at Gencon. I am a geek.
Eventually, I want to go into the study of and advocacy for autistic adults (sooner or later, I'll probably post a rant on the subject). More broadly, I am a strong supporter of CILs and the IL philosophy on disability.
I went to Coopersville High School (in Michigan), where I graduated in 1996. I went on to Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI) from 1996 to 2001, "pursuing" a degree in Film and Video. I got distracted by the shiny objects of Cinematech, SciFi Club, a girl in Spotlight, Alternate Realities Gaming Club, friends, a angsty crisis of faith, and a girl who is now my wife. I left school in 2001 with 2 consecutive semesters of medical withdrawal, and no degree. I floated for a while, not sure of what to be wen I grew up, and working whatever temp jobs I could. In 2004, I served a 1 year term as an Americorps VISTA at Disability Advocates of Kent County - the best not-a-job I've ever had.
I decided that disability rights was the way to go, a feeling that was reinforced when I discovered that sleep apnea and clinical depresssion were both disabilities. It was further reinforced when Andi, my wife, was diagnosed with asperger's syndrome (a form of "high functioning" autism that -oversimplified- makes you smarter, but diminishes your social skills).
After my VISTA service, I went back to school for psychology. Eventually, the financial aid well ran dry before by degree was done, long-mounting bills came creeping up,and Andi got offered a staff position at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
That's where I am now. In July, 2008, we moved to a new place in Cortland, NY. And so it begins . . .

My Interests, in a format unscrambled by LJ:

TV/Movies: Anything by Sorkin, Whedon, Gaiman, Spielburg, or Straczynski - and, unfortunately, whatever garbage is on the scifi channel at any given time.
Books: Yes, Please!
Hobbies:books, writing, gaming, reading, books, activism, books, wasting time, books, and, sometimes, books
Other: disability rights, autism, finding work, exporing the Finger Lakes region.
